Air Source Heat Pump

What does an Air Source Heat Pump look like?

Air source heat pumps are similar in appearance to the air conditioning units commonly seen on office buildings or in warmer climates. The size of the unit required will depend on several factors, including your home’s heating demand, the size of the property, and how well it is insulated.

A typical unit may measure around one metre high and one metre wide, with a depth of approximately half a metre. However, sizes can vary depending on the manufacturer and model.

How does an Air Source Heat Pump work?

An air source heat pump works by extracting heat from the outside air and transferring it into your home. Using a refrigerant system that includes a compressor and condenser, the heat is absorbed from the air and moved through the system.

It is then raised to the required temperature to provide heating for your home, producing warm air or hot water for radiators, underfloor heating, or domestic use.

What We Offer / Installation & Servicing

Servicing

Annual servicing is recommended for all air source heat pumps and is typically required to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty. Regular servicing ensures the system continues to operate efficiently, safely, and reliably.

In addition, schemes such as the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) require your system to be properly maintained and operating effectively. Routine servicing helps ensure your heat pump performs at its best while supporting long-term efficiency and reliability.

We can also service systems we didn’t install!

Installation

An air source heat pump is typically installed outside the property in a location with good airflow to ensure efficient operation. The unit then transfers heat into the home via pipework connected to an indoor system, which is usually located in a utility room, garage or designated plant room. From there, the heated water is distributed to either your central heating system, such as radiators or underfloor heating; or the storage cylinder for hot water.

MCS Accredited Installers

We are MCS accredited air source heat pump installers, meaning our systems meet the strict standards set by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. This ensures every installation is completed to a high quality and allows our customers to access government incentives such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Our Air Source Heat Pump Service Includes:

  • Checking overall system operation and control settings

  • Cleaning the heating system filter

  • Inspecting the external evaporator heat exchanger

  • Checking the heating system antifreeze levels

  • Inspecting system expansion vessels

  • Checking the domestic hot water cylinder and pressure relief valves (PRVs)

  • Tightening electrical connections and inspecting anti-vibration mounts

  • Inspecting the system for any leaks

  • Checking hot water pasteurisation settings

  • Recording key system operating parameters for performance monitoring

Additional Information:

  • The service does not include the cost of any additional antifreeze that may be required. If needed, this will be quoted at the time of the visit, as requirements can vary between properties.

  • The service does not include the replacement of any components that fall outside of the manufacturer’s warranty.

  • Any additional mileage charges will be confirmed at the time of enquiry, if applicable.

  • The service does not include labour for any additional repair or remedial work that may be required.

Mitsubishi

We install advanced Mitsubishi air source heat pump systems, delivering highly efficient, low-carbon heating and hot water for homes and businesses across the UK.

Mitsubishi’s industry-leading Mitsubishi Ecodan range uses renewable energy from the outside air to provide reliable heating and hot water all year round, even in cold winter temperatures. These systems are designed to maximise efficiency, reduce energy bills, and help lower your property’s carbon footprint.

Why Choose Mitsubishi?

Proven Japanese Engineering

Manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric (chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0), Ecodan systems are known for their reliability, performance and long service life.

Energy Efficient & Cost Effective

Air source heat pumps can deliver up to three to four units of heat for every unit of electricity used, making them significantly more efficient than traditional gas or oil boilers.

Low Carbon Heating

Switching to a heat pump helps reduce CO₂ emissions and supports the UK’s move toward cleaner, renewable energy.

Quiet & Compact Design

Modern Mitsubishi outdoor units are discreet, quiet in operation, and suitable for a wide range of property types.

Smart Controls

Advanced controls allow you to manage your heating efficiently, with options for smart scheduling and remote access.
